I would have written some new compelling content by this part of the week, but I just went through emergency dental surgery yesterday, and it will have to wait. I told the Dentist that I have no classified information, but dentists seem never to believe me when I tell them that. However, getting back to business: As soon as my head gets back to working condition, for paid subscribers I will be writing about various things including the innovative rhythmic genius that was part of John Lennon’s creative output throughout his career, and his contrapuntal use of the guitar. But for now, I have chosen to give for free the kind of musical performances that drive away any unwanted and lingering feeling of gloom. We begin with Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag played just right by Dario Ronchi. Following that we will be entertained by The Beatles with Hello Goodbye. Then for your enjoyment a delightful rendition of Come Fly With Me by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn as only Frank Sinatra could sing it. Then we wax highbrow but not at all snobbish with Bach’s Fugue a La Gigue, in that quick paced six-eight time that makes a gigue a jig.
Finally, here is something that isn’t a musical performance. It is, however, proof that a great and very original musician was one of the greatest comedians of all time. Yes, there is often a connection between a lot of music and humor. Yes, it’s not about music. It seems to be about arguing online with knuckleheads. Harpo vs. Kurt from A Night in Casablanca, 1946.
