They were just quoting the critics in order to ask the questions. “A plain diatonic” indeed; the clown who wrote that review didn't know the difference between a diatonic and a gin and tonic.) After hearing the witty replies in the video above, one may think that this was a new phenomenon that started with The Beatles. But the fact is it was a long-standing tradition. Composers including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and others whose names are among the greats, had to put up with the same nonsense from critics in their own times, but they did not often have the opportunity to have fun making witty comebacks. It is worth asking why, that is why are critics so often proved to have been blithering idiots? Let us look at just a few of the worst reviews, recognizing that the list goes on and on.
