Bunessan (best known today as “Morning has Broken”) a Celtic Folk melody
Originally recorded in 2019, digitally remastered in 2024
My own arrangement on the arrangement by Rick Wakeman Says WP: "'Morning Has Broken' is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and is set to a traditional Gaelic tune known as 'Bunessan' (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol 'Child in the Manger'). It is often sung in children's services." My arrangement builds on the arrangement of Rick Wakeman, which he arranged in order to accompany Cat Stevens on vocal.
The words to “Morning has Broken”
Morning has Broken like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.
*
Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.
*
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.
- Eleanor Farjeon, 1911
